The Wrong Wood!!!

I went to check on the handle I was milling in the morning today for Rob to apologetically admit that he had pressed ‘a wrong button’ and the first side of the handle was unlikely to be successful, however I was hopeful and let the file keep running as it looked quite promising. This was not the best news to start the day with, but as I planned to start my chopping board today as well I got my blank of wood and began calculating the length to see if I had enough for the board and a new handle. As I was doing this I realised the technician’s in the workshop had mistaken my plank of maple for someone else beech. Although this meant that I had plenty wood for the new handle it meant the handle that was currently being milled isn't even the right wood and it wouldn't matter if it was successful or not it was not the right type of wood for my design.

With this set back a side, I quickly plained and cut my MAPLE and despite being a day behind schedule the final handle is now actually under way. I was also able to begin my chopping board today. I cut and plained the wood to the appropriate size and mapped out where all my components will be laid out. I was originally going to use a biscuit joint to attach the to lengths of wood ignored to get the appropriate width. However it became clear that this method wasn't going to the best method due to the shape of the biscuits. There for I was able to do a domino joint to join the pieces together. This is a very similar methods but the joints are a different shape work better with my design.

The board is glued and clamped together and ready for more work tomorrow.

I also completed the scale mould for the silicone boarder that will be ready to use tomorrow.
