Chopping Board Solutions

I went to the work shop to discuss with one of the technicians today about adding silicon to the board. The initial plan that we came up with together involved cutting two plastic profile frames that we would fit onto the chopping board in order to create a two part silicone mould. We would then remove the plastic frames and cut into the board. The board would then be placed into the mould and then filled with more silicone. This would allow one continuous boarder of silicone that was attached though the middle. We also considered an appropriate cross section shape to minimise hygiene risks.

However this method seemed unnecessarily complex and tim consuming for such a small detail, therefor we also brainstormed using things like silicone tape, and other mould making techniques. After spending an entire morning thinking of the most appropriate solution in terms of practicality and aesthetics.
Eventually I decided that the best method would be to rout the shape of the frame into the chopping board and on a separate piece of wood I will rout out the same shape but slightly deeper and wider. This will then vacuum form to make the mould as smooth as possible. The piece of silicon created from the mould should then be a snug fit and rise slightly above the board. I have began prototyping this concept to perfect the size of the mould.
