Having presented my mark 1 prototype on Monday explaining what I have done and made so far I have defined my idea further.
I demonstrated how the handle could guide children’s hand into a different position than generic knifes in order to rearrange the pressure points and utilise the strength that children have more effectively. I would like to argue that sharp is safe however this may be hard to market and would be difficult to get approval for child users to test my product. It was discussed that the hand using the knife may not be the most at risk as it is occupied, the protection of the other hand is more important and this is something I will be considering as I take my ideas further.
Having prototyped some of these ideas I think the product will need to be made primarily from plastic. Having the concept entirely wood creates too much friction in the movable parts making it difficult to use. There is the possibility of a double sided board which is half wood and half plastic.
