I have stumbled across another Ted Talk that I have found really interesting. Jamie Oliver, a chef that takes great interest in children getting involved in cooking expresses a great need to improve this generation of children’s knowledge of food.
Jamie Oliver invests a lot of his time working with schools and disadvantaged children aiming to improve their health.
During this Ted Talk he expresses the excessive amount of unhealthy food that children consume and the consequences that this habit can result in. A scene in his presentation that I found shocking reveals that several children are unable to identify vegetables and fruits as simple tomatoes. This footage, in addition to other discoveries Oliver shares during this talk, shows that a better understanding of food and cooking can positively impact the health of children, to the extent where it may even save their lives. Obesity, chronic heart Disease and diabetes are all life threatening conditions that are exacerbated by an unhealthy life style. But there is a solution to the growing number of sufferers. A knowledge of how to cook and prepare healthy food.
