So, what's out there?

There is many cooking utensils on the market which appeal to children, however I believe there is a lot of room for improvement. From analysing some of these products it was clear that much of what exists on the current market put form before purpose, taking the form of amazing and creative utensils that are colourful and often take the form of a character or animal. The aesthetic appeal aside, hardly any of these utensils offer any additional features that actually lend itself to child use and often these creative features hinder the performance of the child when using these products.
I have also noticed that many of the products aimed at children are made from plastic and wood. Although this might be for safety reasons most adult utensils are metal and this might be for a reason. Is there a reason why plastic is dominating the market when it comes to products concerning children?
Another feature that I personally see as a negative is the fact that the kits or sets of kitchen utensils out there are targeting one meal to cook or one aspect of cooking. I want to create a product that has multiple uses and can be repeatedly used and for a variety of recipes.
So now I'm asking myself what is the most useful product or set of products that will encourage children to cook, or encourage parents to allow their children greater involvement.
